Three Best Alfajores Honored at Historic Argentine Competition

The annual Caminos y Sabores fair in Buenos Aires has crowned the top three Argentine alfajores, celebrating the beloved national treat in a passionate competition.

This year's event introduced a new "Author's Alfajor" category, which joined the existing awards for Best Marplatense Style Black Alfajor and Best White Chocolate Covered Alfajor. A panel of 30 judges, including food influencers, experts, chefs, and pastry chefs, evaluated the entries.

Noelia Masaglia of Manjares de Merlo took home the award for Best Marplatense Style Black Alfajor. Her creation features an intense oreo cookie base coated in semi-dark chocolate, representing the dedication of about 30 families employed by the Merlo-based company.

In the Best White Chocolate Covered Alfajor category, the prize went to Punto & Coma, a business run by Soledad Gallego and her husband José. Their winning alfajor boasts a rich cocoa cookie, homemade raspberry jam, a semi-dark chocolate ganache center, and a white chocolate coating. The Ramallo, Buenos Aires-based couple expressed their excitement, calling the award a "caress" for their hard work.

We are very excited, although we had high expectations because we do our work giving it our all, it is always a caress for what one does.

The coveted Best Author's Alfajor award was presented to Dulce de leche & Co. Their winning alfajor, crafted by master alfajor maker Damaris Díaz, features a cocoa dough with a dulce de leche ring and a crunchy coconut heart, all enrobed in semi-dark chocolate. Díaz described the win as an "enormous pride" and a recognition of her daily passion.

All three winners received a trophy, a 30-kilogram container of VACALIN pastry dulce de leche, and prominent promotion through Caminos y Sabores' channels. Organizers noted that the "Author's Alfajor" category, in particular, stood out for its innovative fillings utilizing regional products.
