Three dead in Russian missile attack on Ukraine's Kharkiv region

Russian forces launched missile attacks on the eastern Ukrainian city of Chuhuiv in the Kharkiv region early Tuesday, resulting in three fatalities and three injuries. The Ukrainian Emergency Service reported that the strikes ignited several garages, vehicles, and vegetation in an open field, also causing damage to homes and other buildings. The attack underscores the continued intensity of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Simultaneously, Russia targeted the regional capital, Kharkiv, with drone attacks. These strikes led to 15 injuries, including two children, and sparked fires at a public enterprise and a cafe. Multiple cars were also damaged, along with several apartment blocks, houses, administrative buildings, factories, a shopping center, and a church. Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, has been a frequent target since the full-scale invasion began.

According to Ukraine's Air Force, Russia deployed a total of 155 long-range drones between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. Ukrainian air defenses successfully neutralized 124 of these drones, while another 20 impacted 17 unspecified locations across Ukraine. Although the Emergency Service attributed the deaths in Chuhuiv to missile strikes, the Air Force report did not mention any missile launches, highlighting potential discrepancies in the reporting of attack methods.

The ongoing attacks highlight the severe impact of the war on civilian infrastructure and populations. The scale of the Russian offensive, involving both missiles and drones, indicates a sustained effort to disrupt Ukrainian defenses and sow fear among the populace. Ukraine continues to appeal for international support, including advanced air defense systems, to mitigate such attacks.
