Three houses set ablaze after dispute

Authorities have apprehended a suspect in connection with a series of arson attacks that destroyed three homes belonging to a single family and caused nearly 20 million Sri Lankan rupees (approximately $60,000 USD) in damages. The incident, stemming from a personal dispute, also involved a violent assault.

According to police reports, the suspect set fire to one house in Athurugiriya and two houses in Moragahahena. The suspect is also accused of severely injuring another individual with a sharp weapon. Investigations indicate the motive behind the arson was retaliation. The suspect was reportedly angered after a woman he was involved with decided to end the relationship due to her children's objections.

In response to the attacks, the suspect allegedly targeted the woman's house in Moragahahena, another house owned by one of her sons in the same area, and a third house belonging to her eldest son in Athurugiriya. Following the destruction of the properties, the suspect is said to have attacked one of the sons with a weapon, causing serious injuries. Police acted on a complaint filed regarding the incident and have since taken the suspect into custody.
