Three Infants Die in Hospital Fire in India's Maharashtra State

At least three infants perished in a devastating fire that erupted early Monday, August 24, 2026, at the Women's Hospital in India's Amravati district, Maharashtra.

Preliminary reports suggest the blaze began around 3:30 AM, possibly triggered by an explosion in a respirator within the neonatal intensive care unit. Hospital staff managed to evacuate six newborns, who have since been transferred to another health facility and are reported to be in stable condition. This incident follows a similar tragedy on Saturday morning in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, where a fire in a hospital's neonatal intensive care unit resulted in the death of one newborn and injured two others. Authorities attributed that fire to a spark from a heater filament.
