Three killed in devastating motorcycle crash on Medellín to Caribbean highway

A head-on collision between two motorcycles killed three people in the San Felipe sector of Antioquia’s Bajo Cauca region, leaving communities in mourning.

The crash occurred at about 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, at kilometre 6+100 on the road linking Tarazá and Caucasia. The site is near the entrance to Cáceres and close to the monument to the Virgin and the Sanctuary of the Three Crosses.

Traffic authorities identified the victims as Luis Gonzalo Marín Pérez, from Andes, who was riding motorcycle ZWJ89D; Oviedo de Jesús Villa Serna, who was riding motorcycle CVI87G; and Leydi Diana Agudelo Gutiérrez, a passenger from Tarazá.

All those involved received emergency assistance and were taken to the local hospital in Cáceres, but none survived their injuries. Villa and Agudelo lived in Tarazá, where residents expressed grief and solidarity with their families. Neighbours knew Villa as “Ovidio, el llantero,” a respected and personable member of the tire-repair trade. Authorities are conducting preliminary inquiries into the exact cause of the crash.
