Three-month arrest for Radosław Piesiewicz officially sought

Radosław Piesiewicz, the head of the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl), has been formally charged with paid protection and preferential treatment of creditors, allegedly at the expense of others, in connection with impending insolvency. The prosecutor's office has requested a three-month pre-trial detention for the suspect.

Piesiewicz was detained on Thursday in Warsaw and subsequently heard the charges at the National Prosecutor's Office in Silesia. He maintains his innocence. The investigation reportedly involves allegations that in 2025, Piesiewicz leveraged his alleged influence with the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK), citing connections to a former prime minister, to secure a benefit. This benefit was allegedly a watch valued at nearly 170,000 Polish złoty, in exchange for handling a case for the head of Zondacrypto, Przemysław Kral.

Further accusations suggest Piesiewicz induced a board member of BB Trade Estonia OU, the operator of zondacrypto.com, to disburse funds from the exchange – totaling 195,000 Polish złoty and 100,000 euros. This action allegedly occurred in April of this year, a period marked by public concerns over Zondacrypto's solvency.

During his brief interaction with journalists before the court hearing, Piesiewicz asserted his innocence, stating he had provided detailed information during his interrogation and described the experience as "nothing pleasant." He also questioned the prosecution's claim of recovering funds from Zondacrypto, stating he lost 200,000 euros on a watch and had paid for it. He promised to provide more details later. His lawyer declined to comment to the press.
