Three Nigerians jailed in UK in one week

Three Nigerian nationals have been sentenced to prison in the United Kingdom within a single week for distinct criminal offenses, highlighting a range of serious crimes committed by individuals in the UK.

Michael Nwanze, a 23-year-old Nigerian, received a 13-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to dangerous driving and other charges. The incident occurred in Northampton when Nwanze, driving a vehicle flagged for lacking insurance, fled from the police. He drove at speeds exceeding 100 mph on a dual carriageway and 70 mph in a 40 mph zone, ran through multiple red lights, and collided with several vehicles during the pursuit. Nwanze pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving without insurance, failing to stop for police, and driving without a valid license.

In Scotland, 26-year-old Osarenkhoe Atutie was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison for the attempted murder of his estranged wife, Victory Atutie, in Edinburgh. The attack took place on Duke Street, Leith, after Atutie tracked down his wife following their marriage breakdown. The High Court in Edinburgh heard that the victim sustained 12 stab wounds and required four days of hospitalization. Three bystanders intervened, disarmed Atutie, and restrained him until law enforcement arrived. His initial 10-year sentence was reduced due to his guilty plea, and he is subject to a lifetime non-harassment order and 18 months of supervision post-release.

Additionally, Anderson Ishiekwene, a 25-year-old Nigerian student who arrived in the UK in August 2025, was sentenced to three years in prison. He was convicted of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming. Ishiekwene communicated with a decoy profile managed by an online paedophile hunter group, believing the individual to be a 14-year-old girl. After exchanging numerous messages, he arranged to meet the decoy at a Washington shopping center, where he was arrested. Ishiekwene had admitted to engaging in sexual communications with a child and was convicted by a jury. He must register as a sex offender, comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order indefinitely, and is likely to face automatic deportation after completing his sentence.
