Three people killed in Padcaya bus crash identified

Bolivia’s Forensic Investigation Institute identified the three people who died in a Padcaya company bus crash on the road to Tarija.

The victims were Rafael Choque Challapa, 48, Mario Jefferson Catave Rodríguez, 30, and Yhonny Yujra Condori, 41. Their bodies were taken to the morgue at San Juan de Dios Hospital, where forensic doctors performed autopsies.

IDIF director Ana Ramírez said the victims died from severe multiple trauma and injuries incompatible with life. The crash occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on the road to Tarija, in the municipality of San Lorenzo. The bus, a Volvo with license plate 1316 CIN, was traveling from La Paz to the Tarija capital.

The bodies were transferred to the morgue at San Juan de Dios Hospital, where forensic medical staff carried out autopsies that determined the victims died from severe multiple trauma and injuries incompatible with life.

According to the police report, the driver lost control while negotiating a curve. The vehicle became unstable and overturned on the road, causing significant damage to its structure. Fifteen people were also injured and treated at different hospitals, most of them at San Juan de Dios Hospital.

Roberto Siles, director of the Bolivian Police Traffic Unit, said the bus driver had been detained because of a lack of caution and failure to observe traffic regulations.
