Three people killed, one injured in accident at Petronas floating vessel off Malaysia

An accident during maintenance work on a floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel operated by Malaysian state energy firm Petronas has resulted in the deaths of three workers and injured another. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at the FSO Sepat, located off the coast of Terengganu state in peninsular Malaysia.

Petronas confirmed the fatalities in a statement, reporting that the three workers were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The injured staff member was evacuated for medical treatment and is currently under observation. The company has initiated investigations into the cause of the accident, coordinating with relevant authorities.

While Petronas has not released further details, reports from Malaysia's state news agency Bernama suggest the workers were engaged in lifeboat maintenance. They were reportedly attempting to lower themselves into the sea using a lifeboat when a rope or hook connected to the vessel detached, causing them to fall into the water. Local police are cited as the source for this information.
