Three rescued from flood waters after SA's weekend deluge

Three individuals have been rescued from floodwaters in South Australia after driving into submerged areas during a weekend marked by significant rainfall and storm activity. The State Emergency Service reported responding to more than 530 calls for assistance, primarily related to flooding in Adelaide's northern suburbs.

The rescues occurred at the intersection of Wingate and Winzor Roads in Hillier. Emergency services were dispatched early Monday morning after reports of a vehicle entering a flooded area. Two occupants of the car, a man and a woman, managed to exit the vehicle through the windows and reach safety on the roadside. While police were assisting them, a second car drove into the same flooded area and became stuck.

The driver of the second vehicle also exited safely with the help of police. Both vehicles were subsequently washed away by the floodwaters. Authorities confirmed that no injuries resulted from these incidents. The heavy rainfall led to record-breaking August precipitation in several South Australian towns, with Lenswood recording 110 millimeters and Coromandel East receiving 101 millimeters.
