Three sentenced to life in prison for deadly robbery of businessman Gabriel Izzo

A court in Morón, Argentina, has sentenced three men to life in prison for their involvement in a violent home invasion and robbery that led to the murder of businessman Gabriel Izzo. The ruling by Tribunal Oral en lo Criminal (TOC) N°6 brings a close to a case that has gripped the local community.

Brigido Achucarro González, Jonathan González, and Víctor Fernández Galarza were convicted of aggravated robbery with a firearm and homicide. The court rejected arguments against the constitutionality of life sentences and recidivism, upholding the prosecution's request. A fourth defendant, Walter Rodríguez Sierra, was acquitted, while another accused, Gustavo Mac Dougall, died before the trial began.

Gabriel Izzo, 60, the owner of a local lumber yard, was shot and killed in the early hours of June 9, 2023, when the group broke into his home in San Antonio de Padua. Izzo, a registered firearm owner, attempted to defend himself but was fatally shot. His wife, Silvia Petinari, was also attacked, suffering multiple stab wounds and beatings before managing to alert emergency services. She was hospitalized for nearly 20 days following the incident.
