Three siblings found dead in Darıca; two possibilities in mysterious death

An investigation is underway into the deaths of three siblings whose bodies washed ashore on the coast of Darıca, Turkey, on August 20. The siblings, identified as Gülşah, Muhammet Ali, and Belinay Sakar, were found with their clothes on and showed no immediate signs of assault or injury. Their bodies were transported to the Gebze Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy.

Security camera footage captured the siblings walking together towards the coast in the early hours of August 20. The video shows Gülşah and Belinay Sakar walking arm-in-arm, with Muhammet Ali Sakar beside them. Another sibling, B.S., who was reportedly asleep at home, discovered their absence around 8 a.m. and went out to search for them.

Preliminary autopsy findings suggest that all three siblings had consumed alcohol. While drowning is being considered the primary cause of death, no evidence of struggle, stab wounds, or other injuries indicative of violence was found on their bodies. One sibling's autopsy report noted bleeding in the ears, possibly due to pressure, and traces of blood in the nose.

Investigators are exploring the possibility of familial issues, as the siblings' parents are divorced and they were reportedly discussing their desire to leave the home they shared with their mother. The siblings were described as introverted, close-knit, and academically successful. Ali and Belinay were high school students, and Gülşah had recently been accepted into law school. The family also experienced a tragedy in 2016 when their eldest daughter drowned in İzmir Çeşme.

Police have interviewed the mother, Güler Saltan, and the sibling who remained at home, B.S., as well as other individuals who might have relevant information. Mobile phones and digital devices belonging to the siblings are being examined to reconstruct their final movements and communications. Authorities are meticulously reviewing security footage along the route from the siblings' home to the coast to determine their exact path and point of entry into the water.
