Throwback: I would rather stay at home than work for APC, says Fayose

Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, had previously declared his unwillingness to serve in President Bola Tinubu's administration, stating he would prefer to remain at home rather than work for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). These remarks were made on October 15, 2025, during an appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today program.

Have you seen me taking an appointment from the APC? Asiwaju asked me, ‘What would we give you?’ I said, ‘Nothing, sir.’

Fayose, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, revealed that Tinubu had offered him an appointment, which he politely declined. At the time, he insisted he had no desire to return to public office after completing two terms as governor, stating, "At 65, I’d rather be at home, being more responsible, doing other things that I need to do."

He emphasized that while he maintained a cordial personal relationship with Tinubu, it did not signify political allegiance. However, in a recent development, President Tinubu announced 26 new appointments to various federal government agencies and commissions. Among these appointments, Fayose has been named the Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency, with the presidency confirming all appointments took immediate effect.
