Tien Hsin discusses script selection and drama controversies

Golden Bell Award-winning actress Tien Hsin attended a press conference for the fourth "Asia Speaks" International Original Story Competition, sharing her insights on choosing scripts. She highlighted that her primary criteria include being moved by the story and a strong "visual appeal" when reading the script.

"When I read a script and see visuals, a small theater emerges in my mind. It makes me very excited and thrilled," Hsin explained. She added that she doesn't need to force her performance if the script is compelling, as she can embody the character by simply being present in the moment. She humorously noted that if the script lacks substance, actors must delve into their emotional reserves, but a good script ignites an immediate, visceral reaction.

Addressing the online controversy surrounding the "magical modification" of her drama "The Town of Wisdom," Tien Hsin clarified her role. She stated that her responsibility was limited to portraying the functional aspects of her characters, the mother and daughter Fu Jiang, leaving other elements to the director and screenwriters. She found the role particularly appealing because it deviated from the typical portrayal of a traditional, self-sacrificing mother.

Hsin also revealed her openness to acting in projects with limited budgets or lower compensation, provided the director and collaborators are outstanding. "Money or fame, give me one! Giving me two would be even happier," she joked, eliciting laughter from the audience. She believes that good stories offer opportunities for self-exploration and can even serve as reminders for her own life, particularly in understanding marital communication.

When asked about potential roles, Tien Hsin expressed a strong interest in exploring human nature and specifically mentioned her desire to play a "female gang leader" role, citing her admiration for the "Gatao" series and her confidence in portraying such a character with charisma and a flair for action.
