TikTok user detained in Vietnam for insulting leaders

Ho Chi Minh City police have detained Lê Thị Hiểu, the administrator of the TikTok account 'QuyHoi,' for allegedly posting videos that distort facts and insult leaders. The investigation centers on accusations of violating state interests and the rights of organizations and individuals through online content.

Authorities detected the 'QuyHoi' TikTok account repeatedly publishing videos containing falsehoods. These videos reportedly misrepresented the policies and directives of the Party and the State, and misrepresented the legal proceedings of judicial agencies. The account also allegedly featured statements attacking and defaming leaders and former leaders of Ho Chi Minh City.

Recognizing the seriousness of the matter, the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department ordered a swift investigation. Cybersecurity and high-tech crime prevention units, in coordination with the Investigation Police Agency, worked to verify the information and gather evidence. They quickly identified Hiểu, aged 43, from Ninh Bình province, as the account operator.

During questioning, Hiểu admitted to using her personal phone to record and upload numerous videos. She stated that these clips contained unsubstantiated accusations and insults directed at various organizations and individuals. Hiểu claimed her primary motivation was to "get likes" and "get views" to increase her TikTok channel's popularity. After being informed of the legal consequences of her actions, she expressed remorse and proactively removed the infringing videos.
