TikToker claims she was forced to fake illness, undergo ritual after Oloolu masquerade video

A TikToker has come forward alleging she was coerced into falsely claiming illness and participating in a ritual after her video of the Oloolu masquerade in Ibadan gained traction. Wasilat Olalere stated that she did not film the revered masquerade itself, but rather security vehicles and residents gathered in anticipation of its annual procession.

I recorded Amotekun vehicles that were parked and people who were in front of our house waiting for Oloolu masquerade. I just captioned the video that Oloolu was around Atolu and that people should watch their movement so as not to come in contact with him.

After deleting the video due to public pressure, she claims members of the Oloolu traditional institution, known as Sokoti, forcibly took her from her shop. She alleged they threatened her with jail and took her to the Agungun Police Station, where she was eventually bailed out.

When I posted the video, people started reaching out to me that I should pull it down. I did immediately. I didn’t know that many had saved it.

Upon her release, Olalere said she was taken to Ode Aje for a traditional cleansing ceremony. She described how her mother was made to procure a goat, red cloth, and a blade for the ritual. The goat was killed on her head, and she was instructed to let the blood dry on her body. Afterward, she was filmed being told to claim she had been unwell and bleeding since seeing the Oloolu masquerade. Olalere insists she experienced no illness or bleeding, and that her husband was later made to pay N400,000 after the family purchased all the necessary items for the rites.

They said Olubadan had requested that I come. They said I would go to jail. I was begging them endlessly. They locked me up at Agungun Police Station and I was bailed out on Saturday. As soon as I got bailed out, they took me in another vehicle, saying we were going to Ode Aje to perform some traditional rites for me.
