Tim Curry, 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' Star, Dies at 80

Tim Curry, the iconic British actor celebrated for his unforgettable portrayal of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," has passed away at the age of 80. His death was confirmed by multiple media outlets, citing his manager.

Curry achieved global stardom with his electrifying performance as the bisexual, extraterrestrial scientist in the 1975 film adaptation of "The Rocky Horror Show." The stage musical, which premiered in 1973, had already caused a stir in conservative Britain due to its sexual liberation themes. The film, however, cemented its status as a cult classic worldwide.

Born Timothy James Curry in 1946, he studied acting at the University of Birmingham. After early success in the hippie musical "Hair," he was cast by "Rocky Horror" creator Richard O'Brien. Curry's portrayal of Frank N. Furter, a character he described as a "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania," became legendary.

Beyond "Rocky Horror," Curry was a versatile actor, often playing villains. His filmography includes memorable roles as the murderous clown Pennywise in Stephen King's "It," Cardinal Richelieu in "The Three Musketeers," and the hotel porter in "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York." He also achieved stardom on Broadway, earning Tony Award nominations for his roles in "Amadeus" and "Spamalot."

In 2012, Curry suffered a stroke that left him partially paralyzed and using a wheelchair. Despite his health challenges, he continued to work, notably as a narrator in the 2016 television remake of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and by voicing characters. He also released his autobiography, "Vagabond," as an audiobook last year.
