Tinubu appoints new special adviser on House of Reps matters

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart as his Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, focusing on the House of Representatives. This appointment fills the vacancy left by Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who resigned to pursue an elective position in his home state.

Olanrewaju-Smart, 40, brings a unique blend of legislative expertise and advanced academic credentials in public policy. He holds a doctorate in Educational Management from Lead City University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University, where he was an Edward Mason Fellow in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. His academic background also includes a professional diploma in Public Relations from the London School of Public Relations and fellowships at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Quantum Alliance AI, focusing on artificial intelligence and civic technology.

His career in the National Assembly has been extensive, serving in roles from Research and Media Assistant to the Minority/Majority Leader to Chief of Staff for the Speaker of the House of Representatives across several assemblies. He previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Intergovernmental Affairs from October 2023 until this new appointment. His policy work includes contributions to significant legislation like the Interest-Free Student Loan Act.

The Presidency stated that Tinubu expects Olanrewaju-Smart to leverage his experience and intellect to enhance legislative coordination and relations between the Presidency, government agencies, and the House of Representatives.
