Tinubu Approves New Campus for Nigeria Police Academy with N15 Billion Grant

This significant development, coupled with a substantial N15 billion take-off grant, underscores the government's dedication to modernizing police education and training.

The president’s approval was in fulfilment of the provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, particularly with respect to the expansion of the Police Academy based in Wudil, Kano State, into multiple campuses across the country.

The establishment of this new campus is not merely an expansion but a strategic move to fulfill the provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021. This act mandates the expansion of the academy, originally based in Wudil, Kano State, into multiple campuses nationwide. The allocated N15 billion intervention fund, sourced from the TetFund 2026 allocation, is earmarked for critical infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation, and essential training assets, ensuring the new campus is well-equipped from its inception.

A high-level consultative meeting involving key stakeholders, including the Ministers of Police Affairs and Education, senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), recommended Erinja as the ideal location. This decision was based on careful consideration of student intake capacity, funding realities, academic quality assurance, and the long-term needs of the Nigerian Police Force, which is actively recruiting more personnel.
