Tinubu inaugurates 90-day defence plan committee, approves 600 housing units for Armed Forces

President Bola Tinubu has launched a critical initiative to bolster Nigeria's defense capabilities by establishing a special committee tasked with developing a comprehensive five-year strategic defense cooperation plan. This plan, due within 90 days, aims to fortify the nation's security architecture, foster better coordination among defense and intelligence bodies, and improve the response to evolving threats.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced the committee's formation following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. He detailed that the initiative will focus on national threat assessments and establishing a framework for military cooperation, building on recent successes against bandits and terrorists. The committee comprises high-ranking security officials, including the National Security Adviser, Ministers of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, and Directors-General of the DSS and NIA. The Special Adviser on Homeland Security will chair the committee's secretariat.

This strategic plan is part of a broader administration effort to protect lives and property and consolidate recent gains in combating terrorism and banditry. The government has also implemented measures to enhance the operational capacity and welfare of the Armed Forces, such as increased remuneration, expansion of military divisions, and provision of additional housing.
