Tinubu, Jonathan Hail Outgoing Head of Service Walson-Jack at Book Launch

President Bola Tinubu and former President Goodluck Jonathan led tributes to the outgoing Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, celebrating her distinguished career at the presentation of her two books.

Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, described Walson-Jack as a remarkable public servant who significantly improved the federal bureaucracy's effectiveness and efficiency. He noted her unique place in public administration history, having served at both state and federal levels. The president commended her for documenting her experiences, stating it reflects a deep understanding of public service's lasting impact.

We gather for the presentation of her two books, but in reality, we are here to celebrate something much greater. We celebrate a life of selfless service, a career of exceptional leadership, and a service to humanity.

"She came into the office of Head of the Civil Service of the Federation with a clear understanding that the civil service must continuously evolve if it is to meet the demands of a rapidly changing Nigeria and an increasingly complex world," Tinubu stated, admiring her efforts to make the service more responsive and results-oriented.

Former President Jonathan, accompanied by his wife Dame Patience Jonathan, praised Walson-Jack's courage and resilience. He recalled her transition from the older civil service in Rivers State to the newly created Bayelsa State, and a subsequent demotion at the federal level. Despite the demoralizing setback, she persevered, retiring as Head of Service after a notable career.

The event, held at the Abuja Continental Hotel, also saw praise from Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State and his predecessor, Senator Seriake Dickson, underscoring Walson-Jack's broad impact on public service.

This was very demoralising but I encouraged her to take it and she accepted. Now she is retiring as not only a federal permanent secretary but also as Head of Service.
