Tinubu, NGE Mourn Eagle Online Publisher Dotun Oladipo

President Bola Tinubu, alongside the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Dotun Oladipo, the publisher of The Eagle Online. Oladipo, a prominent figure in Nigerian journalism, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56.

Dotun Oladipo’s death at the age of 56 is a painful loss to the Nigerian media community and to our nation. He was a committed journalist who devoted significant years of his life to informing the public and contributing to the development of our democracy.

Tinubu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, acknowledged Oladipo's significant contributions to political journalism and the digital media landscape. The President noted Oladipo's dedication to providing Nigerians with credible information through both traditional and online platforms, emphasizing the vital role the media plays in a democracy.

"Dotun Oladipo’s death at the age of 56 is a painful loss to the Nigerian media community and to our nation," Tinubu stated. "He was a committed journalist who devoted significant years of his life to informing the public and contributing to the development of our democracy." The President also recalled Oladipo's pioneering efforts in digital journalism through The Eagle Online, which he founded after a distinguished career at The PUNCH Newspapers.
