Tinubu to Restructure Senior Citizens Centre, Welfare Packages for the Elderly

The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is undertaking a significant restructuring of the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC). This initiative aims to institutionalize comprehensive welfare packages designed to benefit millions of elderly Nigerians. The proposed benefits encompass improved pension administration, specialized healthcare services, retirement welfare support, and broader access to age-friendly medical care.

The Renewed Hope for the Elderly (RHE) has disclosed that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was restructuring the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) to institutionalise comprehensive welfare packages for millions of elderly Nigerians.

According to the Renewed Hope for the Elderly (RHE) group, this planned restructuring represents one of the most ambitious efforts to date to restore dignity to senior citizens. The goal is to transform the NSCC into a more robust institution capable of delivering sustainable welfare programs across the country.

These, according to the group, included, improved pension administration, specialised healthcare, retirement welfare and expanded access to age-friendly medical services.

Dr. Bode Olaonipekun, Director-General of RHE, stated at a press conference in Abuja that the Tinubu administration is laying a strong foundation for long-term social protection for older Nigerians. He noted that the federal government has already shown a renewed commitment to older persons through efforts to strengthen the NSCC and introduce policies aimed at ensuring their well-being.

Olaonipekun specifically acknowledged the growing attention given to senior citizens under President Tinubu's leadership. He highlighted the government's commitment, demonstrated through strengthening the NSCC, to creating policies and programs that uphold the dignity of older individuals. RHE welcomes these initiatives, particularly those focused on improving pension administration, retirement welfare, specialized geriatric care, preventive healthcare, and access to age-friendly medical services.
