Tinubu, Wike Laud Julius Berger for Abuja City Gate Transformation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have lauded Julius Berger Nigeria Plc for its work in transforming the iconic Abuja City Gate.

The project, inaugurated on Thursday, is seen as a symbol of national renewal, unity, and urban modernization. President Tinubu, represented by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, stated that the remodelled monument reflects the administration's commitment to developing a capital city that matches Nigeria's global standing. He emphasized that the upgraded City Gate provides visitors with a fitting first impression and showcases the nation's dedication to public infrastructure excellence.

The newly remodelled monument was inaugurated in Abuja, Thursday at a ceremony attended by top government officials, with President Tinubu represented by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration and the 50th anniversary of the Federal Capital Territory.

The striking water fountain at the redesigned facility, symbolizing Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, now positions the landmark among notable global structures. Minister Wike highlighted that the City Gate had suffered years of neglect before this intervention, which was partly inspired by the First Lady's concern.

The upgraded City Gate provides visitors with a befitting first impression of Abuja and showcases the nation’s commitment to excellence in public infrastructure.

Julius Berger was responsible for developing the design, executing the reconstruction and beautification, installing the water fountain, and delivering ancillary infrastructure like improved public spaces and parking areas. The project was completed within the FCT Administration's timeline. To ensure its upkeep, Wike announced that the FCT Administration will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Julius Berger for the monument's maintenance.

The City Gate had suffered years of neglect before the intervention, adding that its transformation was inspired in part by the First Lady’s concern about the state of the iconic structure.
