Tokyo Roadside Station Hosts First Taiwan Products Exhibition, Mangoes Take Center Stage

Tokyo's sole roadside station, Hachioji Takiyama, is embracing Taiwanese culture with its inaugural "Taiwan Products Exhibition." The event, held from July 25th to 31st, commemorates the 20th anniversary of the friendly exchange agreement between Hachioji City and Taiwan's Kaohsiung City. This marks a significant milestone for the roadside station, which opened in 2007 and serves as a vital rest stop and local produce hub for millions of visitors annually.

The exhibition aims to introduce Japanese consumers to high-quality Taiwanese agricultural products and diverse culinary traditions. A key highlight is the display of Taiwan's final seasonal mangoes available in Japan, alongside popular items such as pineapple cakes, Taiwanese tea, and dried guava. The event is organized by "Naka Nihon Exis Co., Ltd.," the operating company of the Hachioji Takiyama roadside station.

It is not only an important platform for promoting high-quality Taiwanese agricultural products in the Hachioji region but also allows us to further introduce the characteristics of Taiwanese agricultural products to the citizens of Tokyo.

The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Wang Ching-yao, head of the agricultural division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, former Hachioji Mayor and current Chairman of the Hachioji-Taiwan Friendship Exchange Association Ryuichi Kurosu, and a secretary for Member of the House of Representatives Koichi Hagiuda. They joined Takayoshi Morishima, President of Naka Nihon Exis, in inaugurating the event and offering samples to the public.

Wang Ching-yao emphasized the exhibition's importance as a platform for promoting Taiwanese agricultural products in the Hachioji region and introducing their unique characteristics to Tokyo residents. He expressed hope that this event will pave the way for more safe and reliable Taiwanese products to be distributed in roadside stations and supermarkets across Japan. Ryuichi Kurosu, who played a role in establishing the friendly ties between the cities, noted the special significance of holding the exhibition at the roadside station he helped initiate, anticipating it will deepen Taiwanese-Japanese friendship.
