Toluca Thrash Juárez 4-0 to Move Into Second in Mexico’s Apertura

Toluca surged into second place in Mexico’s Apertura tournament with a 4-0 win over Juárez FC, extending Juárez’s winless start to six matches.

Brazilian forward Helinho opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a backheel finish from Everardo López’s cross. Toluca doubled its lead in the 34th minute when Colombian defender Jesús Murillo turned a Helinho cross into his own net.

Oswaldo Virgen added the third in the 73rd minute with a shot from outside the area. Uruguay’s Federico Viñas completed the scoring six minutes later, controlling a central move, beating a defender inside the area and finishing left-footed over goalkeeper Sebastián Jurado.

Toluca dominated the first half, recording 16 shots to Juárez’s one. Juárez tried to threaten on the counterattack through Colombian striker Oscar Estupiñán and Panama’s José Rodríguez, but lacked precision.

Toluca now has 13 points under Argentine coach Antonio Mohamed. Juárez remains at the bottom of the standings with zero points, three goals scored and 19 conceded. The sixth round was due to conclude later Sunday with San Luis visiting Monterrey.
