Tom Holland faces 'absolute fear' in challenging Fred Astaire role

Tom Holland is embarking on one of the most demanding roles of his career, preparing to embody the iconic dancer and actor Fred Astaire in an upcoming biographical film.

The British actor revealed he has already begun rehearsals for the part, expressing a complex mix of emotions. "It fills me with excitement and absolute fear," Holland confessed during the promotional tour for 'Spider-Man: Far From Home.' He plans to perform all the dance numbers himself, aiming for Astaire's signature style of long, uninterrupted takes that integrated choreography seamlessly with camera movement.

This challenge draws on Holland's own background. Before achieving global fame as Spider-Man, he trained extensively in ballet and tap, starring as Billy Elliot in London's West End. After leaving dance to focus on acting, he now faces the task of regaining that discipline to honor one of cinema's most influential performers.

Directed by Paul King, known for 'Paddington' and 'Wonka,' and with a script by Tony Award winner Steven Levenson, the film seeks to introduce Astaire's legacy to a new generation. Astaire, famous for his partnerships with Ginger Rogers and classics like 'Top Hat,' revolutionized musical filmmaking with his elegant and precise dance routines. Holland is committed to capturing that essence, stating, "I want to use zero doubles. I want to do all the dances myself and film them in one shot, as he did."
