Tomás Etcheverry's Best US Open Run Ends in the Fourth Round Against Alex Michelsen

Tomás Etcheverry's best US Open campaign ended in the fourth round when the Argentine lost to American Alex Michelsen 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and 46 minutes.

Etcheverry, ranked 32nd, had hoped to become the first Argentine since Diego Schwartzman in 2019 to reach the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows. He was also seeking a second Grand Slam quarterfinal after reaching that stage at the 2023 French Open.

The 22-year-old Michelsen, ranked 46th and known for his powerful serve, reached a Grand Slam quarterfinal for the first time. He handled the hard court at the Grandstand, the tournament's third-largest stadium, with enough consistency to withstand Etcheverry's efforts.

Etcheverry began slowly, dropping his serve in the second game and needing 20 minutes to win his first game. He quickly broke back, however, and leveled the first set at 3-3.
