Tongxiao Seashore to Get Makeover After Successful Sand Sculpture Festivals

The Tongxiao Seashore in Miaoli County is set for a significant upgrade, with the local government investing NT$28 million to revitalize its aging facilities. This initiative comes after the area successfully hosted the Tongxiao Sand Sculpture Festival for two consecutive years, drawing impressive crowds of over 320,000 and 500,000 visitors, respectively. The festival's success has spurred the government to enhance the seashore's appeal.

The renovation project will focus on multiple aspects of the visitor experience. The gateway visitor center will see its weathered exterior surfaces updated for improved safety and cleanliness, with walls being repainted and beautified to create a fresh and inviting atmosphere. A new stainless steel canopy will be added to the second floor of the visitor center to address persistent leaks and wall corrosion, providing a more comfortable waiting and resting area.

Further improvements include upgrading shower and restroom facilities to enhance comfort and hygiene, incorporating water-saving and energy-efficient fixtures. The management office will also be renovated to improve its appearance and operational efficiency. The main avenue within the seashore will be equipped with new landscape lighting for better illumination during evenings, and parking lot lights will be replaced. To combat the summer heat, heat-resistant film will be applied to shaded areas on the beach, and a mist cooling system will be installed along the walkways.
