Toronto Police Detail Security Plan for Caribbean Carnival Amid Safety Concerns

Toronto police are implementing a comprehensive safety plan to ensure a smooth and secure Caribbean Carnival parade this weekend. Chief Superintendent Andy Singh and Inspector Joseph Matys of 41 Division outlined the operational strategy during a press briefing, emphasizing public safety as a top priority.

The increased police presence and enhanced security measures come in response to heightened concerns following a fatal shooting at the Salsa on St. Clair festival. Singh assured the public that a robust plan is in place, with security strengthened in key areas and a visible police presence at carnival events across the downtown core and waterfront.

In addition to police efforts, authorities are asking carnival-goers to actively participate in maintaining safety. Attendees are advised to stay aware of their surroundings, have contingency plans for meeting up with friends and family if separated, and secure their valuables, such as cellphones. Reporting any suspicious activity to officers is also strongly encouraged.

This year, the Toronto Police Service will deploy two drones to monitor crowd movements from above, adding another layer of surveillance. Despite the security concerns, police expressed confidence in their ability to ensure a safe festival for everyone.
