Torres double rescues point for PSG at Rennes in Ligue 1 opener

Ferran Torres marked his Paris St Germain debut with a dramatic late brace, rescuing a 2-2 draw against Rennes in their Ligue 1 season opener. The Spanish forward came off the bench to inspire a second-half comeback after PSG trailed by two goals at the break. Rennes had taken a commanding lead through goals from Sebastian Szymanski and Esteban Lepaul. Szymanski opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a shot that deflected in off the post. Desire Doue thought he had equalized for PSG, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Rennes doubled their advantage seven minutes before halftime when last season's top scorer, Lepaul, converted a low cross from Przemyslaw Frankowski. PSG mounted significant pressure in the second half, and their efforts were rewarded when Torres, a recent acquisition from Barcelona, beat the offside trap to score his first goal for the club with 19 minutes remaining. He then completed the comeback in the 83rd minute, converting another cross, this time from Fabian Ruiz, who had also provided the assist for the first goal. Despite the late surge, PSG could not find a winner, settling for a point on the opening day of the season.
