Tottenham Hotspur starts season with 3-0 loss to Brentford

Tottenham Hotspur's struggles persist as they opened the season with a dismal 3-0 defeat against Brentford, showing little improvement from their previous two seasons where they narrowly avoided relegation.

The team, despite featuring several new signings like Sandro Tonali, Jan Paul Van Hecke, Matheus Fernandes, Andy Robertson, and Marcos Senesi, and having spent over 300 million pounds on transfers, appeared significantly below the expected standard. Manager Roberto de Zerbi's side exhibited familiar problems: an inability to effectively play out from the back, a void at the striker position since Harry Kane's departure, with Richarlison unable to fill the role, and critical errors from goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.

Kinsky was particularly at fault for two of Brentford's three goals. After Keane Lewis-Potter opened the scoring, Kinsky failed to properly parry two subsequent shots, directly leading to goals from Vitaly Janelt and Michael Kayode. The margin of defeat could have been wider, as Rodrigo Bentancur conceded a penalty, but Igor Thiago, last season's top scorer and a Brazil international, hit the post from the spot.

Brentford, managed by Keith Andrews, delivered a strong performance, earning praise from their fans who taunted Tottenham by recalling Thomas Frank's brief tenure there. The 'Bees' fans chanted, "Thomas Frank is laughing at you," referencing Frank's short time as Spurs manager. Tottenham is now looking to new signings Savinho and Omar Marmoush, who are expected to be announced soon, to inject new life into the team and improve their play after this disastrous season opener.
