Tour de France: German hope Florian Lipowitz crashes out injured

Florian Lipowitz, a German hopeful, has abandoned the Tour de France after a severe crash during the 16th stage's individual time trial. The 25-year-old was racing at high risk on a curve in Thonon-les-Bains when his front wheel slipped, sending him to the asphalt. His Tour participation ended abruptly eight kilometers from the finish line, and he was seen entering the ambulance holding his arm.

Meanwhile, Olympic and world champion Remco Evenepoel claimed victory in the tour's sole time trial. The Belgian rider dominated his specialty, finishing 28 seconds ahead of the current overall leader, Tadej Pogacar. The 26.1-kilometer stage between Évian-les-Bains and Thonon-les-Bains saw Lipowitz's unfortunate crash.

Pogacar continues to lead the general classification, holding a 4 minute and 32 second advantage over Evenepoel. Isaac del Toro of Mexico trails in third, 6 minutes and 51 seconds behind Pogacar. Following three stages focused on the overall contenders, Wednesday's stage might offer an opportunity for sprinters. The largely flat 174.7-kilometer route from Chambery to Voiron includes a few minor climbs, potentially leading to a final mass sprint, though a breakaway rider could also triumph.
