Tour de France: Late-night doping controls spark rider outrage

Top cyclists in the Tour de France are fuming over late-night doping controls. Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard were reportedly woken up at 5 a.m. and 2 a.m. respectively for anti-doping tests before a challenging mountain stage in the Alps.

Pascal Chanteur, president of the Union nationale des cyclistes professionnels (UNCP), slammed the checks as "a disgrace." He stated that while he supports strict anti-doping measures, they must respect the athletes. "The riders have been on the Tour since July 4, are constantly monitored, and can be tested every day between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m.," Chanteur said. "So what difference does it make to conduct these checks in the middle of the night after obtaining a judge's approval? There's no reason for it. The testers are overzealous. It's a communication stunt to show they exist."
