Tourist Lost in Mehedinți Forest, Rescue Operation Underway

A man's hiking trip in the Svinița commune of Mehedinți county, Romania, took a dangerous turn when he became lost in the forest and called emergency services for help. The incident triggered a significant mobilization of rescue forces, with mountain rescuers, firefighters from Orșova, and police officers converging on the area.

Salvamont - Salvaspeo Mehedinți confirmed the ongoing operation on Facebook, stating that intervention teams are in the field to locate the individual and ensure his safe return. An ambulance has also been dispatched to the scene, ready to provide medical assistance if needed. The organization assured that further updates would be provided upon the mission's completion.

This event brings to mind recent similar incidents in Romania. Just two weeks prior, a 55-year-old man from Târgu Mureș died after falling into a ravine during a hike in the Făgăraș Mountains, and a young woman was searched for an entire night after getting lost. In June, two tourists who strayed into a difficult mountainous area in Buzău county with an ATV were rescued by mountain gendarmes after a multi-hour operation in adverse weather conditions.
