Tourist Missing in Lake Como After Diving to Save Son

A Dutch tourist has gone missing in Italy's Lake Como after bravely diving into the water to rescue his teenage son. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. near Menaggio, an area known for its dramatic depth changes.

According to initial reports from the coast guard, the father saw his 16-year-old son in distress in the water. The location is particularly hazardous, with the lakebed dropping sharply from 25 meters to 100 meters in a short span. As the man dove in, the boat they had rented reportedly drifted away, possibly due to currents.

The son managed to swim towards the boat and was assisted by someone on a stand-up paddleboard. However, his father, who had entered the water after him, submerged and has not been seen since. Rescue efforts are currently underway, involving the fire department, the coast guard, and local carabinieri.

The young man has been placed under the care of medical personnel. The search for the missing father is ongoing, with authorities working to locate him in the deep waters of Lake Como.
