Tourists flock to Greece: Poles among top visitors as airport traffic grows

Greece's tourism sector continues its strong performance, with airport traffic showing a significant increase in the first half of 2026. A total of 13.65 million passengers passed through 14 Fraport Greece airports between January and June, marking a 5.4% rise compared to the same period last year.

Both domestic and international travel contributed to this growth. Domestic traffic saw a 5.8% increase, reaching 3.62 million passengers. International traffic experienced a 5.3% rise, exceeding 10 million passengers. This indicates a robust demand for travel to and within Greece.

Looking at June specifically, British travelers led the influx of foreign visitors, with 1.33 million passengers flying to Greece. Germans followed in second place with 751,000 passengers, and Polish tourists ranked third, with 385,900 travelers. Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Israel also featured among the top nationalities visiting Greece by air.

The data highlights the sustained popularity of Greek islands and destinations. Airports serving popular clusters, such as Thessaloniki, Corfu, and Chania, saw higher growth rates, particularly in international arrivals. While most airports reported positive results, some, like Kavala, experienced declines, mainly due to a drop in international traffic.
