Trabzonspor coach Hüseyin Çimşir praises team after 5-0 win and backs Paul Onuachu

Hüseyin Çimşir said Trabzonspor’s players responded strongly in their 5-0 win over Gençlerbirliği, but insisted the result did not come from a sudden transformation.

The coach said the team had managed only one training session during the week because some players were on leave. After they returned, the staff worked tactically on Friday. Çimşir said he focused mainly on speaking with the players and raising their energy during the four- or five-day period.

He praised the squad’s desire and said the team’s pressing game worked as intended for the first 10 to 15 minutes. After Trabzonspor took the lead, however, the side allowed some transitions. Çimşir said those shortcomings could be corrected through work and repeated that the players’ commitment had pleased him.

Çimşir rejected the idea that he had used a “magic wand” in three days. He credited the players for the victory and praised the squad assembled by club president Ertuğrul. In his view, Trabzonspor had a strong enough team to challenge for the top in all three competitions, though he acknowledged that the outcome remained uncertain.

Paul Onuachu scored his first goals of the season against Gençlerbirliği. Çimşir said the striker’s injury was not serious and recalled telling him that forwards should not fear when they are getting into scoring positions. Onuachu had missed chances before scoring, but Çimşir said he had expected him to find the net and regarded him as one of the team’s important players.
