Traffic chaos on Croatia's roads as holidaymakers head to the coast

Drivers heading to Croatia's Adriatic coast are facing extensive traffic jams and delays on Saturday morning. The Croatian Auto Club (HAK) reports significant congestion on the main routes leading south, with particular difficulties on the A1 Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik highway.

Between Zagreb and Zadar, traffic is moving in queues, with intermittent stops. The most severe bottlenecks are occurring between the Lučko and Bosiljevo 2 junctions. Approaching the Lučko toll plaza, queues stretch for approximately six kilometers from the Buzin junction and three kilometers from the Zagreb West junction. HAK warns of delays at toll stations, junctions, tunnels, and rest areas along the motorways.

Congestion is also affecting other routes. The A2 Zagreb-Macelj highway is experiencing heavy traffic towards Zagreb at the Trakošćan toll station, with queues extending into Slovenia. To manage the influx, a ban on trucks and buses has been implemented between the Krapina and Đurmanec junctions in both directions.

On the Adriatic Magistral road (DC8), a traffic accident in Podstrana has further slowed traffic, requiring temporary traffic management. Despite favorable weather conditions, HAK anticipates continued delays on major tourist routes throughout the day due to the high volume of vehicles.
