Traffic lights to go dark on Lima avenues: schedules and affected districts due to power cut

Traffic lights in key intersections across Lima will temporarily cease functioning due to scheduled power outages, the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima (MML) announced. The interruptions, set to occur between June 22 and June 28, are necessary for maintenance work being carried out by the electricity company Luz del Sur.

The power suspension will affect signalized crossings in three districts: Ate Vitarte, Miraflores, and Villa María del Triunfo. Specific intersections and times have been listed, with outages ranging from early morning hours to mid-afternoon. For instance, on Monday, June 22, intersections on Av. Javier Prado in Ate Vitarte will be affected from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. On Wednesday, June 24, Av. República de Panamá with Av. Benavides in Miraflores will experience outages from 4:30 a.m. to 6 a.m., while two intersections in Villa María del Triunfo will be without power for extended periods.

Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution when navigating these intersections during the scheduled downtimes. The MML recommends reducing speed, using headlights, maintaining safe distances, and paying close attention to traffic police directing vehicles. Drivers are also advised to avoid distractions, such as using mobile phones, and to cooperate with other road users to prevent congestion. Any additional electrical faults should be reported to the municipality via WhatsApp.
