Traffic Police Officer Dies After Being Hit by Truck While Assisting Motorist in Jakarta

A traffic police officer tragically lost his life on Friday, July 3, 2026, while on duty assisting a motorist on the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) W2 in West Jakarta. Ajun Inspektur Polisi Dua Endang Karyana, a member of the Patroli Jalan Raya (PJR) unit of the Polda Metro Jaya traffic directorate, was struck and killed by a truck.

The incident occurred around 10:50 AM at Kilometer 11.400 heading south. Karyana had stopped to provide assistance to the driver of a light truck, a Toyota with license plate AD-8974-WW, which had broken down and was stopped in the chevron area. As Karyana was attending to the vehicle, a box truck, an Isuzu with license plate B-9663-TXW, was traveling from north to south.

According to the Head of the PJR Unit, Ajun Komisaris Besar Polisi Rieki Indra, the box truck collided with the rear of the light truck. The impact pushed the light truck forward, hitting Karyana, who was standing in front of it. The collision resulted in severe injuries to Karyana, including a head contusion, a crushed right leg, and a fractured left leg.

Karyana was rushed to Kramat Jati Police Hospital but was pronounced dead at 3:11 PM. The Head of the West Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit, Komisaris Reza Hafiz Gumilang, confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. Investigators have conducted a crime scene investigation, interviewed witnesses, and secured the two involved vehicles and their documents as evidence. Karyana is survived by his wife and two children, and his funeral was scheduled for Saturday, July 4, 2026, in Garut, West Java.
