Tragedy in Adda River: Four-year-old child and uncle drown

A tragic incident occurred in the Adda River when a 47-year-old Indian national and his 4-year-old nephew drowned while trying to cool off from the heat. The uncle died instantly after jumping into the river to rescue his brother and nephew.

The young boy was recovered in critical condition and transported by air ambulance to Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bergamo. Despite extensive resuscitation efforts both at the scene and during the transfer, he succumbed to his injuries around 2:30 p.m. The family was at the riverbank in a popular summer spot known as Golfo Rivolta, located between Rivolta d'Adda and Truccazzano.

According to the carabinieri, the father, 45, was the first to enter the water, followed shortly by his son. When the child began to struggle, the uncle, who was visiting from Portugal, immediately jumped in. He managed to help his brother and nephew reach the shore, but was swept away by the current and died, likely from exhaustion.

Emergency services, including carabinieri, firefighters with dive teams, ambulances, and two helicopters, responded to the scene. The uncle's body was found approximately 300 meters downstream from where he disappeared. The bodies have been handed over to judicial authorities for further examination.
