Tragedy in Kimolos: 17-Year-Old Dies, Electrocution Suspected

Tragedy has struck the island of Kimolos following the sudden death of a 17-year-old boy, who reportedly suffered a fatal electric shock while preparing to bathe. The incident took place on Sunday evening at the home where the teenager was staying with his mother.

The family, which resides permanently in Ireland, was on summer vacation in Kimolos, as the 17-year-old's mother originates from the island. Initial information points to a possible electrical leak from the water heater as the cause of the electrocution.

However, the precise cause of death remains unconfirmed and awaits clarification from a technical investigation, a forensic examination, and evidence gathered by the authorities. Of particular interest to the investigation is the condition of the house's electrical system, which is reportedly old, with its wiring dating back to before the 1970s. Investigators are also examining whether a residual current device, a safety mechanism that automatically cuts off power in case of an electrical leak, was present in the electrical panel.

The deceased's body was transported from Kimolos to Piraeus for an autopsy. The forensic findings are expected to be crucial in determining the cause of death, while authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
