Tragedy near Berlin: Student and man killed in knife attack at school

A violent knife attack at a school on the outskirts of Berlin has resulted in the deaths of two people, an 18-year-old female student and a 30-year-old man. German police have apprehended a 19-year-old suspect in connection with the incident, which occurred in Gosen-Neu Zittau, Brandenburg.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 1:45 PM local time after receiving multiple reports of the attack. Despite immediate medical attention, both victims succumbed to their injuries shortly after. Police have identified the suspect as a 19-year-old German national.

Initial investigations suggest the attack stemmed from a personal dispute. Local media reports indicate that the suspect may have been the ex-boyfriend of the deceased student. The 30-year-old man is believed to have been killed while attempting to intervene in the assault.

This incident follows a similar attack last month in Bavaria, where a 16-year-old injured two girls with a knife at a school. Statistics show a concerning trend of knife violence in Germany, with nearly 30,000 knife attacks recorded last year, including almost a thousand fatalities.
