Trailing Lai Ruilong by 12.6% in latest poll, Ke Chih-en questions KMT/TPP sample size

A recent poll released by the Epoch Poll Center shows Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Lai Ruilong leading Kuomintang (KMT) candidate Ke Chih-en by 12.6 percentage points in the Kaohsiung election race. Lai secured 36.2% support, while Ke garnered 23.6%. However, a significant 32.8% of respondents remain undecided, and 7.4% indicated they would not vote or would cast invalid votes.

Ke Chih-en has publicly questioned the validity of the poll, specifically targeting the sample size. She argued that the combined sample size for KMT and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) supporters was less than half that of DPP supporters. "With such a biased sample size, any result is not surprising," Ke stated, implying that the poll's methodology could skew the outcomes.

In terms of favorability, 40.4% of respondents believe Lai Ruilong will win, compared to 16.2% who favor Ke Chih-en. A substantial 43.4% were unsure or refused to answer. Meanwhile, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai enjoys a high approval rating of 81%.

Ke Chih-en pivoted the discussion towards public concerns about food safety, particularly edible oils. She criticized the government's handling of the issue, referencing the Premier's initial refusal to apologize and a spokesperson's remarks. Ke urged the ruling party to reflect on its crisis management and public communication, suggesting that these issues are more pressing for the public than the poll results.
