Trainee IPS officer sent to judicial custody in sexual harassment case

A trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in Hyderabad has been remanded to 14 days' judicial custody in connection with the alleged sexual harassment of a female colleague. M Uday Krishna Reddy was taken into custody following a court order on Wednesday.

Reddy, who was detained on Tuesday evening, was formally arrested after questioning. Police took him for a medical examination before producing him before a local court in Upparpally. He has been sent to Chanchalguda Central Jail until August 11.

The case stems from a complaint lodged on July 19 by the woman trainee IPS officer. She alleged that Reddy had sexually harassed her during their training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Police registered a case against him under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The investigation, now handled by the Women's Safety Wing, includes recording the complainant's statement and reviewing a medical report. Officials familiar with the matter indicated that the medical report noted injuries consistent with the allegations, including marks around the neck suggesting possible strangulation, bruising on the cheek, and injuries on the left leg.

Investigators are expected to collect further forensic and documentary evidence as the probe continues. A team had previously visited Reddy's residence for a scene reconstruction as part of the investigation.
