Travel Agency Organizes Tailored Vacations for LGBTQIA+ Travelers, Prioritizing Safety

Herk-de-Stad-based travel agency Herbots Reizen is pioneering inclusive travel by organizing bespoke vacations tailored for the LGBTQIA+ community. The agency's primary goal is to provide safe and welcoming travel experiences, especially for destinations where LGBTQIA+ rights and acceptance are limited.

Koen Wijgaerts, vice-chairman of Limburg Pride, is partnering with Herbots Reizen on this initiative. He noted that the idea emerged organically from a discussion about supporting Limburg Pride, leading to the concept of specialized LGBTQIA+ travel. Wijgaerts highlighted the disparities in how LGBTQIA+ individuals are treated globally, pointing to countries with severe penalties for homosexuality, such as Uganda.

In some countries, homosexual couples can show themselves without problems, while elsewhere it is not a given. In Uganda, homosexuality is even punishable by death. There is still too little advice about this, hence this initiative. It is great that Herbots Reizen now offers an answer to this.

Herbots Reizen's director, Koen Herbots, emphasized the importance of providing clients with accurate information about potential risks and cultural sensitivities in their chosen destinations. While the agency will not discourage travel to any specific country, it aims to equip travelers with the knowledge to navigate diverse environments safely. This approach also extends to providing tailored advice for solo female travelers.

The first group trip, titled 'Love is Love, Travel is Freedom,' is scheduled for October 2-4 in Amsterdam. The itinerary includes visits to the exhibition 'Amsterdam, the Pink City' at the Nieuwe Kerk, the Anne Frank House, and a tour of sites significant to the LGBTQIA+ community, culminating in a drag show. The initiative has already garnered interest from other travel agencies, indicating a potential broader impact on the industry.

Everyone should be able to travel freely, regardless of their sexual orientation. But people also need to know what to expect at their destination. We will not discourage anyone from traveling to a certain country, but we will point out possible risks or cultural sensitivities to customers.
