Travelers' Igloo-Inspired Home Stands Out Near Warsaw

In the typically villa-style town of Konstancin-Jeziorna, near Warsaw, a house stands out, designed for a couple who have spent years exploring remote corners of the world.

Inspired by the communal living spaces of traditional dwellings like tipis, yurts, and igloos, the architects aimed to create a home that fosters intimacy and connection. The single-story structure is nestled close to the ground, blending with the forest floor. Its design emphasizes an open-plan layout, with glass walls and an internal atrium featuring a garden and a retractable glass roof. This design allows the interior to merge with the surrounding nature, offering residents a sense of being both indoors and outdoors.

Architects Wojciech Kotecki and Katarzyna Mach, along with landscape architect Marta Tomasiak and interior designers Monika and Adam Bronikowski, collaborated closely with the owners. Their goal was to build a sanctuary that not only provides a retreat but also serves as a space to showcase the couple's extensive collection of travel mementos. The house features exotic plants in semi-patios, reflecting the owners' fondness for Mediterranean flora, and is adorned with art and sculptures gathered from their journeys, creating a personal world filled with memories and inspiration.
