Tri Ton orders crackdown on informal motorbike taxis carrying tourists up Dai Mountain

Authorities in Tri Ton, An Giang province, have ordered an immediate end to informal motorbike taxi services taking tourists up Dai Mountain. The services became popular after TikTok videos showed visitors riding to Co Vui restaurant to view the mountain scenery.

Officials say the route is narrow, winding and steep, creating particular risks when it rains. The road stretches about 2 kilometers and serves local agricultural transport and forest-fire prevention operations. Tri Ton commune has not approved visitors riding their own motorbikes up the mountain or camping midway along the route.

Vice Chairman Le Van Duong said the commune supports tourism plans under the forest canopy but requires tourism operators to follow regulations and protect visitor safety. Co Vui restaurant is an informal tourism business, and local authorities have recorded violations several times.

“We will increase inspections to prevent unfortunate accidents,” Duong said. Police are patrolling the road, warning operators and asking informal motorbike taxi groups to sign commitments not to carry tourists up the mountain.

Tri Ton is known for its mountain landscapes, including Ta Pa Lake, Ta Pa Mountain Pagoda and the Tram and Phung Hoang Son routes. Those attractions, along with the local dish of roasted chicken, draw visitors to the area.
