Nha Trang to Clear Makeshift Food Stalls on Dangerous Mountain Pass Cliff

Tables, chairs and tarpaulins have appeared beside the cliff edge on Luong Son Pass, where residents and tourists gather to eat, enjoy the view and take photos despite the danger.

Bac Nha Trang Ward said on Sept. 4 that it would launch a coordinated operation to remove the makeshift drink stalls and snack vendors along Pham Van Dong Road. The cliff rises dozens of meters above the rocks below, and accidents have occurred in the area as visitors explored and posed for photos.

Some visitors sit almost at the edge, while young people have climbed outside safety barriers for better views. Parents have also allowed small children to run around near the drop. Trần Quang Tuấn, a 32-year-old resident, said the scenery and cool afternoon air attracted people, but warned them not to approach the edge.

Authorities have repeatedly cleared encroaching stalls and installed warning signs at some locations. However, existing penalties apply to unauthorized trading in the road safety corridor, not to visitors who stand or sit near the cliff. The ward said it would inspect and deal with the informal businesses while urging the public to keep away from the edge.

What attracts people here is the beautiful scenery, with many places to take check-in photos or gather with friends. However, everyone also needs to pay attention to safety and should not go close to the cliff edge because it is extremely unsafe.
